‘There is widespread belief among some Muslims that the UK government's foreign policy was directed against Muslims - This is wrong - I was against the Iraq war - I'm no supporter of the government on that objective, but I do absolve them completely of any anti-Muslim objectives and I think the government has to work a lot harder to explain its foreign policy.’
Sir Malcolm Rifkind (former British Foreign Secretary)

Five years into the ‘War on Terror’, Civil War looms over Iraq, while Afghanistan still lies in ruins. Recent polls in the US suggest support for the offensive action in Iraq is fading fast amongst a disheartened public. Is the US winning its ‘War on Terror?’ Or have Western leaders got their strategy wrong? Can the chasm between hearts and minds ever be narrowed?
