How successful has it been in fairly representing some of the world's current conflicts and debates ?
Few doubt that we live in an age in which the media has unprecedented power. Images of conflict, the pain and suffering of millions, the incresing volatility of global events are graphically brought into our lives through the media lens. For many, the media provides the primary source of trusted information on some of the world's most important issues and debates. Journalists, media professionals and those who serve the industry have, therefore a great responsibility to serve their audience through accurate and unbiased reporting. But has the media successfully done so to date? Some forward coverage of conflicts in Iraq and palestine, and the portrayal of Islam as evidence of media failures. Others believe the media is wrongly accussed, pointing to considerable difficulties in fairly representing both sides of such complex events.
