As we approach the fourth anniversary of one of the most controversial military episodes of modern times views are still as polarised as ever as to whether it was a justified war. Whilst most people agree that the aftermath of the war has been a failure, a debate can still be had over whether or not the war was a well intentioned failure or misguided from its very outset. Was the war a foresighted attempt to end tyranny, dictatorship and a threat to the world, which went wrong in its execution? Or was it an example of an outdated colonial philosophy that failed to assess that the world has fundamentally changed? Will more troops and maintaining the occupation help achieve much needed stability? Or is the occupation part of the problem itself? |
